Looks are important in a #design but the design also needs to be able to communicate the message that it is trying to get across in a creative, effective way.
By combining the different design elements that I am going to be talking about into one design, you should be able to create an effective, good design.
1. Direction
In designs, you want to create an illusion that there is #movement within the design. Direction makes designs more interesting. It leads the viewer throughout the design showing them what is most important in the beginning.
You can create direction by using vertical and horizontal lines which bring the viewer around the design.
This technique can be used when there is important content that each viewer must see. The use of the lines will direct their eyes to it.
2. Whitespace
My brand is all about simplicity. Therefore, I tend to take advantage of #whitespace in my designs.
Less is more.
If you can get your message across in a design that is simple and uses whitespace. That is an effective design because it is not easy to use whitespace. You need to make sure that you are getting everything across while still keeping it simple.
You also need to use whitespace effectively. Too much whitespace can ruin a design.
“Design is so simple. That’s why it is so complicated.”
—Paul Rand, art director and graphic designer
3. Use of color
Each color has a different meaning so you want to be sure to pick the colors that correspond with what your design is trying to say.
You want a design to create a feeling and/or emotion as people look at it. And that happens when you choose the right colors. For instance, if you design represents anger then you would want to use the color red but if you want the design to represent calmness then you could use the color blue.
Try out these few tips and see your designs improve from a good design to a great design!
